Vanlife in Luxembourg: A Wildlife Adventure
Let’s be honest: Luxembourg isn’t the first place you think of for a vanlife trip. It’s not famous for beaches, mountains, or epic road trip vibes. But wow — this tiny country is shockingly beautiful, especially in autumn. Picture golden leaves, quiet rivers, and rolling hills that look like something out of a postcard. If you’re planning a van trip and Luxembourg isn’t on your radar, it’s time to recalibrate
The Journey Begins: Liefreg Parkplaatz
Our first stop was Liefreg Luxembourg,
a peaceful start to our wildlife-focused trip. The quiet surroundings and fresh air were the perfect way to ease into the adventure.
No crowded campgrounds here—just you, nature, and the open road.

Esch-Sur-Sûre & The Burfelt Viewing Platform
Next up, Esch-Sur-Sûre stole the show with its charm. We couldn’t resist for a coffee and drive further for a hike near the Burfelt viewing platform, which offers nice panoramic views of the forest and surrounding area. Vi dog called Ivy had the time of her life—zooming around, sniffing everything, and wagging like crazy. If you like trails that keep your dog totally entertained, this is the spot. Oh by the way…
By the way, if you keep going to this spot here, there’s a sign that says “no parking”—which, um, I totally didn’t see. We ended up at a parking area that isn’t for overnight stays, but it’s perfect for a walk. Trust me, this is the kind of trail that makes you fall in love with nature (and possibly rethink your parking habits).
A Foodie Stop: Restaurant Ying SARL
Hungry from all the exploring, we randomly decided to try Restaurant Ying SARL—just a total shot in the dark because we wanted something different. And wow, what a pleasant surprise! The food was excellent, and it’s definitely worth a stop on your trip. Places like this can be hard to come by in Luxembourg, so we were thrilled to find it. Bonus points: right across from the restaurant is a parking lot that seems practically designed for campers. You’re welcome!
An Unexpected Night in the Forest
After an unexpected (and very long) night tour of the hospital in Luxembourg City (a story for another day), we ended up pulling in late to this tucked-away gem we found on Park4Night. Surrounded by forest and blissfully free from traffic, it was the perfect retreat. Falling asleep to the “sounds of nature” (aka our phone’s playlist 😜) was surprisingly relaxing. The next morning, a few walkers and hikers passed by, but they didn’t bother us, and honestly, this spot turned out to be a great find.
Vianden & The Mullerthal Trai
So, the next morning, we kicked things off at the Mullerthal Trail, and wow, this place was something else. Rock formations, towering trees, ivy everywhere—it’s like nature showing off. The trails weren’t crowded, which was a win, and Ivy (our dog) went nuts looking for the ultimate stick. Spoiler: she found it. Seriously, such a chill and gorgeous spot to wander around.
Following the hike, we grabbed a coffee at Brasserie Heringer Millen. It was… fine. Not bad, but not good enough to make us order another one. Anyway, here’s a tip: there’s a bus near the parking lot here that’ll take you right back to your car if you parked here. Super handy.
After Mullerthal, we cruised over to Vianden, and let me tell you, this town is straight out of a Dracula fairy tale (in the best way). Cool vibes, epic views, and the kind of place that makes you feel like you stepped into a Gothic postcard. Definitely worth the drive.
Oh, and a quick heads-up: if you’re staying the night in Vianden, maybe skip parking near the graveyard—it’s not exactly the most peaceful vibe *lets say… . Instead, head over to this spot instead. It’s quieter, more camper-friendly, and way less spooky. You’ll thank me later.
Why Luxembourg Is Perfect for Vanlife
Luxembourg surprised us with its vanlife-friendly nature. We found plenty of free, flat parking spots surrounded by wildlife, ideal for anyone seeking solitude.
Although we didn’t use them, the campsites we passed looked well-equipped with electricity, water, and waste disposal services. Refilling water tanks on the go? Easy. Cheap diesel? Even better. Luxembourg’s low fuel prices were the cherry on top, making this trip even more budget-friendly.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-path van trip, Luxembourg is a hidden gem. From wildlife-packed stops to serene nights in the forest, it’s a destination that deserves more attention. So, pack your van, grab some snacks like Pringles, and don’t forget to fill up on cheap diesel before heading home.
Luxembourg may be small, but it’s packed with surprises—and we can’t wait to go back! If anyone’s curious about the route or has their own Luxembourg vanlife tips, drop a message—we’d love to hear from you! 😊
