Zahara de la Sierra

So, I’ve got this project—exploring all the most beautiful villages in Spain. Not all at once, obviously (I like to keep things exciting), but let’s say it’s a long-term commitment… 👻 And how do I pick my destinations? Easy.
I let the online roulette of destiny decide for me
This time, the universe said, “Zahara de la Sierra.”

Getting There 🚐

If you’re ever road-tripping through Andalusia, here’s a solid plan: Málaga → Ronda → Zahara de la Sierra → Sevilla. Sounds nice, right? If you haven’t been to Ronda yet, stop by, walk around that famous bridge, pretend you’re in an epic movie scene… but okay, lets move on…
Ronda deserves its own post. Let’s focus on Zahara! Continue driving

A White Village with a View 🏡

Zahara is one of those classic pueblos blancos—narrow streets, white-washed houses, and a local bar in the main square where everyone gathers. The best part? It sits right next to Embalse de Zahara-El Gastor, a stunning turquoise reservoir that looks unreal from above. If you ever wondered where to get that postcard-perfect Spain photo, this is it.

I arrived in February, managed to park my campervan on the side of the road (not recommended for larger motorhomes, sorry big guys), and noticed there were about four designated parking spots nearby. Get there early if you want one!
Coasy spot for 3/4 Campervans – 🅿️

Zahara’s Claim to Fame 🏰

The village is known for… 🥁… being beauty 🤩 ! Seriously, it’s got the usual castle ruins, stunning viewpoints, and a central square where everyone meets for tapas and cervezas. Classic small-town Spain. KIS – Keep It Simple.

Food Stop: A Happy Accident 🍲

I ended up at Bar Josefin, because every other place was packed—yes, even in February. Turns out, Spanish bikers don’t hibernate. I ordered something completely unknown to me (because that’s how we roll), and out came Potaje de garbanzo con acelgas. Never heard of it before, but wow. A warm, hearty chickpea and chard stew that immediately gave me flashbacks to Poland’s Kapusniak made by Karolina. If you know, you know. If not, you need to try both.

Outdoor Fun: Hiking & Climbing 🏔️

Near Zahara, you’ll find hiking trails and climbing caves. But heads up—some areas require a permit because they’re home to the rare Pinsapo fir trees. If you want to explore, check out the official Junta de Andalucía website, press “Aceso sin certificado” and there you have a form to fiiled in. (permits are free, but necessary – apparently ).

Also, no hiking here during fire season—let’s keep nature happy and healthy.
*For weekends all tickets are soldout in advance…  Any way ill go and see how it works 😉

Final Thoughts

Zahara de la Sierra? A solid yes. Cute, charming, and surrounded by nature—what more do you need? If you’re into road trips, tapas, and stunning views, put this one on your list.

Next stop? Who knows. The roulette decides! 🎲
